Building Wonder, Designing Dreams: The Bookmaking of Brian Selznick

CLIENT District of Columbia Public Library

LOCATION Washington, DC

Brian Selznick, author of books like The Invention of Hugo Cabret and Wonderstruck, is celebrated for building fantastical worlds through illustration and spellbinding storytelling. To support a special program featuring the author, the city’s Public Library asked H+R to create an exhibit exploring his inspirations and work. Located within the Library’s busy main lobby, the exhibit was modeled on a super-sized, walk-in book, with a treasure-filled “cabinet of wonders,” an interactive automaton and flight simulator based on Amelia and Eleanor Go for a Ride.
