Korean War Veterans Memorial

On the strength of its work for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Cooper-Lecky Architects was hired to perform similar services for the Korean War Veterans Memorial. CLA looked to H+R not only to design inscribed quotes and text elements, but also to determine lettering techniques best suited to each location and viewing condition. H+R investigated and adapted a variety of techniques based on environmental conditions, including flush-mounted cast stainless steel letters for the site’s signature quote, V-carved lettering with platinum “leaf” infill for the “Freedom is not free” quote, and tall caps sandblasted into granite used for names of countries.
