Elephant Breezeway

The breezeway is the outdoor, all-hours-access, and flexible classroom component of our Elephant Discovery Center project. The breezeway enlivens an abandoned lot adjacent to the Discovery Center, while also connecting parking with the street. Developed with a special focus on children and school groups, the outdoor space features colorful painted graphics comparing the three species of elephant, a global map of elephant habitat, dimensional tactile sculptures of elephants, a conveyor belt interactive dramatizing an elephant’s great intake of food and great outflow of dung, and infographics in the pavement charting the great range covered by elephants in the wild. The breezeway also includes an elephant sculpture made of recycled tires and interpretation of a rain cistern and the site's outdoor sustainability features.
