George Washington's Ferry Farm Digital Site Tour

Ferry Farm on the Rappahannock River was the boyhood home of George Washington and the landscape on which our first president spent his formative years. Today, Ferry Farm is an archeological site, where clues to the past are buried underfoot. To help visitors see the "world that George knew," H+R developed a location-based, digital site tour that features custom map illustrations, interviews with experts, 3D diagrams and archeological artifact close-ups. As visitors make their way across the site, today's modern map gradually fills in with a custom illustrated map of the original Washington homestead. Part of a series of larger interpretive planning efforts, the tablet-based tour is a window onto Ferry Farm's colonial past, the Washington family’s dynamics, the enslaved on whom they relied and the history-making ambitions of a young man named George.
