Buoys will be buoys

H+R is working with Quinn Evans Architects to develop outdoor and indoor exhibits for Point Lookout State Park. The emphasis is on a historic lighthouse—one of the first erected on the Chesapeake Bay—and adjacent buoy and coal sheds, some of the only still in existence. The team approached the US Coast Guard to find a decommissioned buoy and the USCG was only too happy to oblige! They invited us to walk the US Coast Guard Yard to "take our pick" among several shapes and sizes. We're now working on the challenge of transporting our choice—a 6,500-lb, 20-ft-long channel marker—to the site, where it will become the centerpiece of the site's outdoor program.
