National Civil Rights Museum Lobby, Retail and Signage

CLIENT

National Civil Rights Museum

LOCATION

Memphis, TN

In addition to the overall museum-wide renovation project, H+R was tasked with redesigning the National Civil Rights Museum's retail store, core public spaces and campus signage. The lobby was opened up into a two-story space with grand stair to create a sense of arrival and provide more breathing room and drama to the existing "Movement to Overcome" sculpture. The formerly modest retail store was relocated and enlivened with interpretive graphics to capture visitors on their way out of the exhibit, increasing the footprint of this important revenue-generator and encouraging sales. Outdoors, the Museum's multiple buildings are now linked by signage that helps establish the Museum as a destination.
