Liberty & Laughter: The Lighter Side of the White House

CLIENT George W. Bush Presidential Center

This lively exhibit provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the lighter side of the presidency. Entertaining first family anecdotes, interactive guessing games, presidential debate “bloopers,” amusing artifacts, political cartoons, and custom caricatures explore how presidents have intentionally or unintentionally used humor to deal with the stress of the job and to communicate more effectively with the public. It's a reminder of the fact that all presidents — even the founding fathers — have been subject to ridicule. Primary colors, super-scale type, and bold, black linework give the gallery the feel of a walk-through comic book. This project is the proud winner of the Communications Arts Award of Excellence for Typography.
